AMCSS/JMB 35th Annual Conference 2022

AMCSS/JMB Annual Conference took place from April 27th to April 29th in the Europe Hotel, Killarney.

The theme of Conference 2022 was ‘Recovery and Renewal in our Faith Schools’.

This conference was a very special one where we were given an opportunity to reconnect and renew friendships as school leaders. Opening Keynote Speech was delivered by Rev Dr Gareth Byrne, Vicar General in the Archdiocese of Dublin and Moderator of the Dublin Diocesan Curia (Presentation).

‘The future of Catholic Education in Ireland - understanding the attitudes of parents, and how our schools can best respond’ - Closing Keynote Address by Mr Rory O'Rourke.

Recovery and Renewal: A Wellness Workshop:

This workshop will be entirely experiential and practical. It offers time-out to renew and restore a sense of balance and wellness within.

This presentation will explore the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in the context of recent policy changes to the allocation and provision of additional supports in schools, and considers how the SENCO can contribute to school-wide improvement.

Relationships and Sexuality Education: LGBTQ+ matters in a Church that is learning to love:

There have been significant changes in Irish society in its understanding and expression of human sexuality. Many catholic schools are welcoming and inclusive of all students irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity. However, some continue to struggle with reconciling their pastoral care for the students with the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Challenges with Diversifying the Teaching Profession:

Despite commitments made in both the Migrant Integration Strategy (2017-2020) and The Programme for Government - Our Shared Future (2020), the teaching profession remains stubbornly homogenous. Internationally educated teachers, including Irish nationals who qualified overseas, identify barriers to entry into the Irish teaching workforce. These range from registration to recruitment and on to progression within the system.

Cost of conference

€350 for one participant and €660 for two.

All attendees must register on-line prior to attending training/events.
Payment for JMB events/training will only be accepted by credit/debit card, as with all other on-line bookings/purchases.
