JMB Allocations Seminars 2026

Allocations and Guidance in post-primary schools

Two Seminars, One Day

JMB will this year present two seminars in six venues around the country. As the Teacher Allocation process has been delayed it is not possible to arrange as many seminars as in previous years.  The SMA team at JMB will continue to support individual schools with all aspects of allocations.

1. Staffing Allocations & Changes to CIDs

This session will provide an overview of the allocations process, how the allocation is arrived at for your school, completing returns for the DEY, redeployment, EAL, allocation for new subjects, changes to DP allocation, DEIS+ initiatives, changes to HSCL, positive mental health and wellbeing post, changes to eligibility for CIDs and the role of the principal and board and management in the administration of CIDs.

Individual consultations with JMB staff will take place after the seminar as required.  We are delighted and very appreciative that Mr Gabriel Martin, Department of Education and Youth, with overall responsibility for allocations will attend and speak at each seminar.  This session is primarily aimed at principals, however deputy principal’s, chairpersons and  those involved in timetabling are also welcome.

2. Guidance in post-primary schools: A focus on policy development, Whole School Guidance and Guidance Counselling.

During this interactive presentation, Dr Carol Guildea, DEY Guidance Specialist will summarise all contemporary policy relating to guidance in schools and will discuss forthcoming policy which is expected to issue within the next 12-18 months. This workshop will provide an opportunity for schools to discuss any issue relating to post-primary guidance - allocation of guidance hours, whole school guidance and guidance counselling, timetabling, efficiency accountability and transparency, relationships, confidentiality and access to guidance counsellor.

Who should attend:

School principals, chairpersons, deputy principals and those who have responsibility for decisions regarding the curriculum, timetabling and staffing.
