Financial Management Guidelines

The FSSU publication “Guidelines for Financial Management in Voluntary Secondary Schools” (the Red Book) was distributed to all schools in 2006. It is a reference document of best financial practice which gives guidance to school management on all aspects of finance which impinge on the operation of the school.

Guidelines of this nature are never totally definitive and have to be updated and reviewed over time. For this reason, the FSSU regularly issues additional guidelines and information bulletins to schools in order to supplement the “Red Book”. The additional guidelines are grouped into two sections, current and archived. The Guidelines are listed by school year. The guidelines provided are applicable to all areas of the school’s operations including activities not funded by the Department of Education and Skills. Supplementary templates for school budgeting and other financial issues for schools are also updated on a regular basis.
